Not only is it a flourishing industry, being involved in children's clothing designs is extremely profitable and personally gratifying. Many have grabbed the chance to offer adoring parents with apparel that their little ones adore by using Chez Ami.
Background
Chez Ami started roughly 30 years ago by Patsy Aiken in Coronado, California. The company was well-known then and now as Patsy Aiken Designs and relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina. Patsy, while her husband continued to be a Navy pilot, visualized of her children's clothing designs selling in local boutique shops when she began. Her own son and daughter were the fitting models as she labored to sew her garments in a small space above her garage.
A few years later her husband, Joel, retired from the Navy and has been working with Patsy ever since in the company, overseeing all finance and information technology while Patsy continues all the design and manufacturing.
As Patsy Aiken Designs grew, they wanted to change their distribution from upscale department and specialty stores. They chose to sell their children's clothing designs using independent distributors and started Chez Ami.
Products
The Chez Ami product lines are fashionable and seasonal children's clothing. All designs and manufacturing are overseen by Patsy Aiken. Most of the products are made in the United States, except for sweaters, tights, and a few hair accessories.
The Chez Ami catalog is updated seasonally twice a year. The bold, bright, primary and secondary color palette is a trademark of Chez Ami and the manufacturing is made using only the highest quality knits and woven fabrics. In fact, left over fabrics are sold by the yard in the Chez Ami website for those who wish to create their own designs at home.
Products include clothing designs for:
- Babies, Toddlers, and Children up to about 10 to 12 years
- Swimwear
- Nightwear
- Hair Accessories
- Holiday Designs
- Monogram options for specific designs
Change in Distribution Structure
As Patsy and Joel began weaning away from upscale department retail stores, they decided to begin an independent sales network for distributing their products. Individuals can sign up to become Sales Consultants and sell the Chez Ami products through prearranged home parties. Every Sales Consultant is given only selected selling periods, between Jan-April and July-October, directly by Chez Ami.
There is a seasonal commitment fee of $100 for the first season and $50 for each season thereafter for all Sales Consultants. No inventory is required, however, and Sales Consultants enjoy other great benefits such as:
- 40% discounts on Chez Ami merchandise
- Cash commissions for all sales
- First choice at end-of-season sales
- Bonuses for performance recognition
Chez Ami offers extensive sales support to the Sales Consultants including marketing materials, seasonal catalogs, invitations and order forms. Understanding the need to get off to a good start, Chez Ami offers a mentoring program for help and guidance in the Sales Consultant's first season. Commissions are paid to Sales Consultants not only on the sales at a home party but also as year-round orders placed directly by customers. There is opportunity to earn other income and bonuses by recruiting new Sales Consultants and mentoring them in their first season of parties.
Quality, durable, and good-looking children's clothing are always in style. Not only if you have children but you are passionate about great quality clothing for all children, you may want to look into becoming a Chez Ami Sales Consultant and starting your own business.
